The slick, flashy, feature-focused nature of the modern web chafes on me.
As technology has developed, as web frontends have become more responsive and feature-rich, our ability to authentically express ourselves and our interests seems to have waned. The result, to me, is a soulless homogenisation of persons into users. As web technology has exploded in complexity, the means by which individuals interface with the web have consolidated around just a few dominant platforms, stripping away the expressive DIY aesthetic that was previously a major part of maintaining a web presence. On an internet where every person's representation has been confined to a neat banner & avatar, or a claustrophic grid of images, how are we to tell who is even real?
I am chosing to maintain my presence in a way that is fun, nostalgic, human, and authentic to me. You're welcome to join me here.
